Our Story

We are known for quality flooring at Carpet One Floor & Home in Fort Wayne, IN, but we’re more than your usual flooring store. We pride ourselves on being able to bring you the best products and services in the home design industry. That is why we offer exclusive services such as Shop At Home, where we bring our showroom to your home.

Our tradition of excellence spans nine decades. Amid the Great Depression in 1932, our founder, Fred Lipp, left Cincinnati to open his initial Fort Wayne store. Over the years, Fred’s store- then known as Standard Rug and Linoleum Company- would see several relocations, a disastrous fire in 1941, and a triumphant rebuilding.

Second-generation owner Stan Lipp, who began helping his father in the store as a youth, took over operations in 1969. In June 1969, the business joined forces with Carpet One Floor & Home as its first franchisee. Carpet One Fort Wayne moved to its present location in 1973. By the mid-1980s, third-generation owner Stephen Lipp assumed family business operations. As of April 1996, the store has proudly been a part of the Carpet One Floor & Home cooperative.

While this store is one of the oldest family-owned and operated businesses in the State of Indiana, it is still one with the owner's "hands-on" everyday personal guidance and attention to even the most minor details to ensure customer service and satisfaction come first.

In our third generation, we understand that our vital business and continued growth are due to our dedicated service to the community and attention to customers.
